Employee volunteering and giving

We give a helping handWe give a helping hand

The IDC’s Employee Volunteering and Giving (EVG) programme aims to encourage employees to get involved in socio-economic initiatives to alleviate development challenges faced by communities. In doing so, it builds a strong IDC employee brand of engagement and civic pride. It also supports the organisation’s reputation among staff for aiding the development of communities in South Africa.

EVG is a prominent part of the IDC’s corporate social investment programme. The initiative consists of non-paid voluntary work undertaken by employees, either within or beyond working hours, and supported by the employer. A strong culture of volunteerism is encouraged by giving employees various opportunities to get involved in.

I Do Care

The 'I Do Care' programme involves employees voluntarily contributing part of their salary to charitable causes. Those various initiatives which address different causes, namely: Habitat for Humanity, World Hunger Day, Nelson Mandela Day, World Book Day, Casual Day and CANSA Shavathon are also promoted throughout the year.

The programme is also integrating initiatives into the core CSI programme focused on education through the Women Legacy Project as well as mentoring and career talks by employees.

These initiatives not only help improve the company’s reputation, they also broaden and improve employees’ skills competence. For the beneficiaries, EVG enhances their links with companies, while helping increase their management skills and knowledge. In addition, employees get satisfaction from the knowledge that they are contributing to various affected communities.

Special Projects

The IDC also considers projects that have a strategic link to its mandate, for example, disaster and humanitarian relief. As part of employee volunteering programme, the IDC also encourages its staff to support welfare initiatives or drives in their communities outside the EVG.
